New flights to Spain and Italy starting October 28, 2025
Wizz Air, most environmentally sustainable airline*, today announced two exciting new routes from Gdańsk. Starting 28 October 2025, Wizz Air will operate flights to Madrid (Spain) and Catania (Italy), both scheduled three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. These new connections provide travellers from northern Poland with direct access to the vibrant Spanish capital and the charming Sicilian coast, just in time for autumn and winter getaways. Tickets are now available on wizzair.com and via the WIZZ mobile app, with prices starting from just PLN 179**.
With its world-class museums, iconic plazas, and lively culture, Madrid is perfect for year-round visits. Catania, nestled between the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna, offers unique Sicilian character, baroque architecture, and culinary delights — ideal for travellers seeking both adventure and relaxation.
The launch of new routes strengthens Wizz Air’s presence in Gdańsk Lech Walesa Airport, one of the airline’s six operational bases in Poland. Operating in Poland since 2004, Wizz Air carried over 120mln passengers and now offers nearly 200 routes from 12 airports. In the first half of 2025 alone, the airline operated over 8,000 flights to and from Gdańsk, with almost 1.7 million bookings. With 8 aircraft bases in Gdańsk, Wizz Air offers flights to 37 destinations in 19 countries, supporting regional mobility and tourism development.
Wizz Air operates one of the youngest and most efficient fleets in Europe, with an average aircraft age of just 4.5 years, built around the cutting-edge Airbus A320neo family. In 2025, the airline reported an industry-leading 52.2 grams of CO₂ per passenger-kilometre, with over 67% of its 237 aircraft powered by next-generation Pratt & Whitney GTF engines – cutting fuel burn by 20% and noise by 50%.
Gabriele Imperiale, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air, said: “We are excited to expand our Gdańsk network with two attractive southern European destinations. As demand for travel continues to grow, especially to cultural and sun-soaked cities, we remain committed to offering affordable and sustainable travel options to our Polish passengers. Madrid and Catania perfectly reflect the diversity of our network and the spirit of discovery we want to inspire in every journey.”
The airline’s expansion in Gdańsk reflects its long-term commitment to the Polish market and to providing easy access to Europe’s most exciting destinations. These new routes are also part of the Customer First Compass initiative, a €14 billion investment plan over three years aimed at delivering a travel experience that is increasingly accessible and tailored to passengers’ needs: competitive fares, greater flexibility and a continuous focus on service quality at every stage of the journey.
