For the second consecutive year, Wizz Air confirms its role as a title partner for the Milan marathon.
Wizz Air, EMEA’s most environmentally sustainable airline, celebrates the great success of the 23rd edition of the Wizz Air Milano Marathon, where it’s Title Sponsor for the second consecutive year. This success is also the result of Wizz Air's strategic role and its direct connections from Malpensa Airport (one of the five Wizz Air’s bases in Italy), which facilitated participation in the event, contributing to strengthening the international appeal of the marathon and reinforcing connection with a region in which Wizz Air continues to invest.
For the second year in a row, Wizz Air chose to be the Title Sponsor of the Milano Marathon, furthering its support for sports events that promote the airline's core values. Wizz Air supports numerous running events across Europe, helping spread a message of well-being, dynamism, accessibility and connection between communities, while emphasizing the company’s focus on social sustainability.
This edition marked also a new record of entries and continued growth in participation and international appeal.
With over 10.000 runners the event has confirmed its place as one of the most attractive marathons in Italy and Europe. The marathon kicked off at 8:30 AM from Piazza del Duomo, the starting and finishing point of a looped route that passed through the most iconic locations in Milan. Compared to the previous edition, which had 8.545 participants, the number of runners showed a significant increase. The international presence was also extraordinary: 5.500 athletes came to Milan from all over the world, with the top 5 participating countries led by Italy, followed by France (25%), Great Britain (11%), Germany, and Belgium (4%).
“Being the Title Sponsor of the Milano Marathon for the second year in a row has been a great source of pride for us. This year’s edition once again confirmed how this event perfectly embodies Wizz Air’s core values: dynamism, spirit of adventure, accessibility and social sustainability. It was truly inspiring to see thousands of runners take to the streets of Milan in such an energetic and inclusive atmosphere – a celebration of sport, well-being and environmental awareness that we were proud to be part of,” said Salvatore Gabriele Imperiale, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air. “The Wizz Air Milano Marathon is the first event of Wizz Run Series, our competition offering runners across Europe the chance to win the airline's All You Can Fly membership, and we strongly believe that running is the perfect example of a sport that is extremely low-cost and accessible for all. Our support to the Wizz Air Milano Marathon reflects our commitment to Milan. Our Milan Malpensa base in fact remains a strategic base for our operations in Italy and strengthens our connection to a region we feel deeply rooted in.”
